Don Titmus is a Horticulturist and Permaculture Designer. Dons home site aka the Bee Oasis organic garden is a living testament to his dedication to the natural world and how human’s are the solution to the Earths challenges.
Don began his Horticultural training in London, England as part of an apprentiship program with the London Borough of Hillingdon in 1975 ending four years later. From this point he used his skills in the Landscaping section for LBH projects. In 1981 he moved to Arizona, USA and continued in landscaping until 1991 when he moved fully into Union Jack Gardening Service (garden maintenance) specializing in Xeriscape gardens. In the summer of 2003, at the insistence of a close friend, he attended his PDC Permaculture Design Course at Ecoversity, Santa Fe, NM. See http://www.ecoversity.org. All Don’s life came together as one connected whole. All the strange physical, spiritual, and ecological aspects of his life finally had a “hub”, the center of the web, which pulled together his diverse, eclectic interests.
It took Don six months to fully digest all that happened during the PDC, and began intergrading some of what he learned into his xeriscaped garden. Realizing that much of what he had already done was just fine as it was. The real changes came as more food plants – fruit trees, grapes, perennials got planted.
At this stage Don wanted to follow the teaching path. This led to attending a Teacher Training with Jude Hobbs and Tom Ward in Oregon. With this experience, Don increased his teaching experiences – classes with the Phoenix Permaculture Guild, Organic Gardening class at a Charter High School and numerous presentations. Currently Don is the PPG Course Facilitator and was instrumental in restarting the Certified PC Design Courses.
